Richard W. McWhorter
President and Founder
Richard W. McWhorter is a veteran real estate executive with more than 20 years of experience in
real estate operation, development, marketing and finance. As Founder and President of The Settings
Development Companies, Richard focuses on the creation of master planned residential communities
throughout the Southeast.
Richard began his career after graduating from Georgia State University in 1980 as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand in Atlanta. Prior to founding The Settings, Richard served as Chief Operating Officer for Land Resource Companies, which he co-founded in 1997. During McWhorter's tenure with the company, the company grew from a start-up to $100 million in gross annual sales revenues in 2004. It was during this time period that Richard seized the opportunity to create something new, and The Settings Development Companies was founded.
A trailblazer and visionary, Richard has been involved in the founding of numerous companies throughout his career. These include Bryant & Associates, an Atlanta-based real estate services firm; Lanco Properties, a residential lot development firm; Portman Barry Investments, a full-service development and brokerage firm that became one of the fastest growing, most successful development firms in Atlanta during the 1980s.
Richard is married to Sandra Dugas McWhorter, his wife of 27 years, and has two sons. Brandon is a a graduate of The Terry College of Business at The University of Georgia and currently serves as Director of Sales for The Settings of West Point Lake. Brent is a graduate of William & Mary and is currently enrolled in a graduate program in Landscape Architecture at Clemson University. Richard and Sandra are residents of Vinings, Georgia.
Marc H. Wilson
Executive Vice President
Marc H. Wilson has more than 20 years of experience in real estate marketing, sales and management.
As Executive Vice President of The Settings Development Companies, he manages all aspects of
community planning and design, sales, marketing and advertising. Thanks to his keen eye for natural
beauty and his wide ranging knowledge of the practicalities of community development, Marc also assists
in property acquisitions.
Prior to joining The Settings, Marc served as Senior Vice President of sales and marketing for the southern region of a highly successful resident development company, which focused on mountain and waterfront land opportunities throughout the Southeast. Under his guidance, gross sales exceeded $100 million during 2004, more than doubling the company's 2003 sales volume.
A graduate of Clemson University, Wilson currently holds active broker licenses as Sole Proprietor in Florida and is the Principal Broker at The Settings. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute, the North Carolina Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
J. Hardman Knox
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, Hardman is the primary liaison for all lender and investor relationships. His responsibilities include
structuring equity and debt investments for each of the company's land development projects. In
addition, he assists in determining the feasibility and potential profitability of land acquisition
projects, and is responsible for creating the internal financial model for The Settings Development
Companies, which is used to forecast capital returns. Prior to joining The Settings, Hardman served as Vice President of Finance for Atlanta-based Land Resource Companies, where he managed the successful capitalization of several residential land development projects. He was also employed in the loan syndications department of Wachovia Securities, for which he structured and distributed senior debt facilities with a focus on real estate and telecommunications.

An ability to envision "the big picture" and a wide range of talents that relate to the practical applications of
the process of community development allow Chip Knight to successfully oversee daily on-site
development activities for all communities of The Settings. As Vice President of Development, Chip
is also involved with land acquisitions, the preparation of financial information and the continual
search for those rare parcels of land that meet the high standards of The Settings. Once a property
is purchased by The Settings, Chip implements community concepts and manages the land planning,
engineering and construction phases.
